A few years ago, Yesila Musaja applied for a job as a truck driver and they rejected her. “Just because I was a woman, they didn’t want to hire me, but I’ve always said I would get the job at some point. I’ve always enjoyed driving,” she recalls. Now, Yesila drives a mining truck at Anglo American’s Quellaveco Project.

Las protagonistas nos cuentan sus experiencias en #SomosImparables.

Together with Stracon, Anglo American has launched support initiatives aimed at the women of Moquegua to help them achieve their work goals and fulfill their life purposes. Part of this means training them so that they are more employable in a high-demand activity. Yesila, who participated in a training program together with 40 other women, says that the experience has made her feel stronger and show her two children that “they can do anything they put their mind to.”

The #SomosImparables (#WereUnstoppable) campaign, created thanks to the commitment of our Operations Management, will allow us to educate #UnstoppableWomen at Quellaveco as part of our Inclusion and Diversity Policy, which seeks to empower the women of Moquegua in the mining industry so that they are able to achieve economic independence.

I’ve always like driving, operating machinery, and working in those sorts of things. Stracon and Anglo American gave me this chance and now I feel braver and strong enough to be what I really want to be.

My son is happy. He says we should be grateful to God that I’m getting training. He knows me well and says he’s sure I’ll be one of the best operators around.

I always tell my daughters that it’s not only men who can do what they say. For example, I am both mother and father to my kids, and now I’m about to achieve my dreams with my two daughters. The eldest is graduating from law school this year. I’m proud to have set an example for both of them.
