Among the many reasons that make us proud of Moquegua, in addition to our achievements in educational development and agricultural exports, our history, landscapes, and people, there is also the fact that we are the number one mining region in Peru.
This is due in large part to Quellaveco, which is currently our country’s largest mining project with a planned production cycle of 30 years, over the course of which it will contribute more than 1 billion soles to national development and local communities, not to mention hundreds of jobs. This project is not only of special note in Peru, but throughout the region, with the second largest copper deposit in South America—and in fact, the whole world—ranking among the top 15 copper producers internationally.
